HAIR CARE
Bourne Elite Luxury Hair Extensions are authentically raw and unprocessed human hair. We encourage you to follow our pre and post installation instructions for optimal results. Our hair extensions are reusable and will last for a few years with proper care. Raw hair extensions can be dyed and styled just like your natural hair. Treat your hair extensions as if it were your own hair and it will sustain its elite beauty over an extended period of time.
Before installation, shampoo and condition your hair extensions to revitalize and moisturize your bundles. Always wash and co-wash your raw hair extensions in a downward motion; hair extensions should not be handled rigorously.
After installation, we recommend weekly or bi-weekly shampoo and deep conditioning treatments to maintain softness, manageability and durability. Use sulfate free products that are infused with natural oils. Shampoo cleanses, clarifies and maximizes shine. Conditioner provides hydration and moisture without weighing your hair down. Deep conditioner restores and strengthens the strands to sustain its health. Leave-in conditioner is required for curly hair extensions and optional for straight and wavy hair extensions. If you're unable to wash and condition your own hair, visit a professional hair stylist to properly shampoo, condition and dry your natural hair and hair extensions. If you'd like to chemically alter your hair, seek assistance from a professional hair stylist; she/he should proceed subsequent to a strand test. Keep styling products at a minimum. Follow these hair care instrutions to preserve your investment and ensure complete satisfaction.
SHAMPOO:
- Use a wide tooth comb to comb your hair extensions from bottom to top.
- Wet your hair extensions with lukewarm water.
- Add a moisturizing, sulfate free shampoo to a basin of warm water.
- Hold the top of each bundle and sponge the diluted shampoo into your hair extensions.
- Apply the diluted shampoo in a downward motion. Do not massage or rub your hair extensions together during the shampoo process.
- Thoroughly rinse with warm water. Warm water opens the cuticles and prepares your hair extensions for the next step.
CONDITION:
- Apply sulfate free conditioner to your hair extensions in a downward motion.
- Evenly distribute the conditioner throughout your hair extensions. Do not massage or rub your hair extensions together during the conditioning process.
- Leave the conditioner in your hair extensions for approximately 15-20 minutes.
- Comb the conditioner through your hair extensions with a wide tooth comb. Be sure to comb from bottom to top.
- Thoroughly rinse with cold water. Cold water closes the cuticles and seals in moisture.
DRY:
- Wring excess water out of your hair extensions.
- Gently pat dry with a towel. Do not rub your hair extensions together while pat drying.
- Use a wide tooth comb to comb your hair extensions from bottom to top.
- Allow your hair extensions to air dry. Air drying is more beneficial as it maintains the health and longevity of your raw hair extensions.
- When your hair extensions are completely dry, prepare for installation.
DEEP CONDITION:
- Follow "SHAMPOO" instructions to wash your hair extensions 1 to 2 weeks after installation.
- Gently wring excess water out of your hair extensions.
- Apply a sufficient amount of moisturizing deep conditioner to your hair extensions. Apply the deep conditioner to your leave out section(s) if applicable.
- Spread the deep conditioner in a downward motion until all of your hair extensions are saturated.
- Gather your hair extensions and pile them on top of your head.
- Cover your head with a plastic cap.
- Use a heating cap or hair dryer to apply heat for approximately 15-20 minutes. Deep conditioners require heat for maximum cuticle penetration.
- After the heating process, wait an additional 10 minutes to allow the deep conditioner to penetrate the strands completely.
- Remove the plastic cap and use a wide tooth comb to comb the deep conditioner through your hair extensions. Be sure to comb from bottom to top. Your hair extensions should be smooth and easy to comb at this stage.
- Use cold water to thoroughly rinse the deep conditioner out of your hair extensions. Cold water closes the cuticles and seals in moisture.
- Wring excess water out of your hair extensions.
- Gently pat dry with a towel. Do not rub your hair extensions together while pat drying.
- Apply a heat protector serum to your hair extensions. Apply the heat protector serum to your leave out section(s) if applicable.
- Set your hooded hair dryer or blow dryer on low heat and proceed to dry. Be sure to dry your roots thoroughly.
- Comb and style as needed.
THERMAL TOOLS:
You're able to use thermal tools to straighten, curl, crimp, dry, etc; however, we suggest safer styling options such as flexi rods, twists, braids, and low heat/air drying methods. Please note: hair extensions do not have the same nutrients as the strands growing from your scalp. Heat damage can cause breakage and dryness. Therefore, it is important for you to use heat protecting products, maintain durability with deep conditioning treatments, and protect it with a satin scarf or bonnet during sleeping hours.
SLEEPING & DAILY CARE:
Straight & Wavy Hair
- Gather your hair extensions into a ponytail and twist the ponytail into a bun.
- For bouncy curls, part your hair extensions into sections and install flexi rods. Tighter curls require smaller sections and thinner flexi rods.
- Cover your head with a satin scarf or bonnet to prepare for bed.
- When you wake up, remove your scarf or bonnet and undo bun or remove flexi rods.
- Comb and style as needed.
Curly Hair
- Put your curly hair exrensions into a loose pineapple ponytail.
- Cover your head with a satin scarf or bonnet to prepare for bed.
- When you wake up, remove your scarf or bonnet and undo pineapple ponytail.
- Section your curly hair extensions and keep sections separate with clips.
- Use a wide tooth comb to comb each section from bottom to top.
- Pour water, a curl defining leave-in conditioner, and your preferred oil (i.e. coconut oil, argan oil, macadamia oil, etc) into a spray bottle.
- Screw spray nozzle onto the bottle and shake well.
- Spray a sufficient amount of the mixture into each section.
- Evenly distribute the mixture throughout your curly hair extensions.
- Comb the mixture through each section with a wide tooth comb. Be sure to comb from bottom to top.
- Scrunch your curly hair extensions upwards for 3-5 minutes. This action makes the natural curl pattern more defined.
- Allow your curly hair extensions to air dry. Do not run your fingers through your wet hair extensions.
- See elite results when your curly hair extensions are dry.
EXERCISING:
- A high ponytail will protect your hair extensions from excess oil and sweat.
- For long hair extensions, a high bun is recommended.
SWIMMING:
- Braid your hair extensions into one large braid.
- Put on a swim cap. Always wear a swim cap to prevent prolonged exposure to chlorine or salt.
- After swimming, remove swim cap and undo your braid.
- Use a wide tooth comb to comb your hair extensions from bottom to top.
- If chlorine or salt water seeps under your swim cap, shampoo and condition your hair extensions as previously described.
- Gently pat dry with a towel. Do not rub your hair extensions together while pat drying.
- Allow your hair extensions to air dry or apply a heat protector and blow dry on low heat for faster results.
- Never go to bed with wet hair. Sleeping with wet hair causes matting and tangling.
